Injustice for all?

It has been five years since US authorities first transferred “war on terror” detainees to the detention camp in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

Despite widespread international condemnation, hundreds of people of more than 30 nationalities are still there: without charge, and with little hope of obtaining a fair trial. Though US authorities have repeatedly called the detainees “terrorists” and “killers”, not a single person has been convicted of a crime.

Five years of lawlessness is enough. Join activists worldwide in showing solidarity with the detainees and their families, demanding once more, and louder than ever, that the detention facilities at Guantánamo be closed.

Can you believe it? History will not judge us kindly for the policies of the Bush Administration. We have become a rogue nation ignoring international law and the Geneva Convention all the while demanding other countries obey OUR orders.

Amnesty International is an excellent organization – thank you for addressing this important topic, Iced Mocha.

You’re so right, Gracie. Such terrible hypocrisy.

This is what happens when you continually tell yourself and everyone else that you are the greatest country in the world. You start believing your own press and think you are above reproach in all you do.

Channel Four had the first showing of a Docudrama called The Trial of Tony Blair last night – made very interesting viewing – and left very real scope for a follow up – being the real trial by a UN tribunal at the Hague for war crimes.

Iraq, the war on terror, Guantánamo Bay all featured very heavily as his legacy, from which he was unable to escape.

AI are an excellent organisation – one deserving of support.
