Funniest movie of 2006
January 10, 2007
For me, it was Little Miss Sunshine, hands down. I thought it was gut-busting funny, honest yet absurb, and heartwarming. I didn’t get around to seeing it until it came out on video. All I can say is: better late than never.
What’s your pick?

I liked Little Miss Sunshine, but I’m puzzled as to why so many people thought it was so funny. Certain parts of the movie were definitely funny, but it was such a dark comedy – much more depressing than funny to me, but very life-like. By the end, I was so sad. The poor kid who can’t go into the airforce – Steve Carell – the dad who can’t provide for his family and takes his bitterness out on his kids. It’s an interesting movie, but it killed me rather than amused me.
If I had to pick the funniest movie of the year… I think I would choose Clerks II. An acquired taste, definitely, and remarkably distasteful to many, many people, but much much funnier than I thought it would be.

I adored “Little Miss Sunshine!” Best quote: “That is some sweet sweetness.” Very much in the Royal Tenenbaums vein.
